Arden Hills land deserves attention Editorial Minneapolis Star Tribune (MN) August 23, 2009The 585-acre, California-shaped chunk of land sprawling across the Twin Cities northern flank is definitely a fixer-upper. One of the biggest undeveloped parcels left in the metro, the former Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP) just off Hwy. 10 and Interstate 35W has soil primarily contaminated by lead, volatile compounds in its groundwater, a surprising number of blocky industrial buildings, weed-infested parking lots and a thick forest of dark utility poles. The property's sorry state is part of the price the nation paid for liberty. Billions of rounds of ammunition -- the bullets that helped the United States and its allies win World War II -- were made right here. That history, as well as the rarity of this sizable tract, is why this plain-jane property's fate shouldn't be left to the highest bidder. ...
