Cleaning up the wastewater site White Lake Beacon November 3, 2008WHITEHALL TWP - The Whitehall Township board voted to approve the Brownfield plan to help finance an environmental cleanup after a public hearing Monday night. The Brownfield plan only enabled the township to apply for a loan to help clean up the site's current contamination and collect taxes from the site to pay for the loan. The plan did not approve a proposed energy plant, a fear of many at the meeting. "The Brownfield authority doesn't actually have the statutory ability to have any say as to what is happening on the land," said Tim Ryan, chair of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. "Our priority is to take a piece of land that is polluted and clean it up to the point where it is capable of being developed." Ryan said that any development plans would have to come before the planning commission, requiring further public meetings. ...
