recognize the necessary tension between military people who are engaged in downsizing and citizens who are now engaged in post-cold war base conversions - recognize that this is a tension of two entirely different cultures which have historically followed different procedures in line with different objectives - consider the task to be in part a matter of cross sultural communication and bewareof the way in which your own likes or dislikes of the military culturemay get in the way of communication and cooperation - a fightover the rules of procedures is less helpful than begining by understanding the views of the other parties - study some of the work done on conflict resolution and cross cultural communication and recognize how your own approach helps set the stage for possible communication - if the warringparties in the middle east can attempt to demilitarize their region we should be able to find ways to cooperate regarding the civilian use of former military resources - Larry | |
