Women Voters: community needs more input on Moffett cleanup Navy disagrees, says community has enough say in decisions Publication Date: Friday, November 08, 2002 Faiza Hasan After a year of controversial cleanup proposals and concern over human health risks, the local League of Women Voters chapter is worried that residents are being excluded from the government's plans to decontaminate Moffett Field. Voicing doubts about the effectiveness of the Restoration Advisory Board (RAB)-- a group of individuals and organizations advising the Navy on the environmental cleanup of the base -- the League of Women Voters of Los Altos-Mountain View recently sent a letter to the Navy and NASA. "The effort has been underway for six years and it is still quite a way from understanding the contamination problems and how to resolve them," said Jane Turnbull, co-president of the League. "Granted, they are extremely complex environment issues. But above and beyond that, by looking at the functions of the RAB (we see) that individual agencies are bringing their resources to it but they do not function in a collaborative mode."
